Holiday Hiatus December 23, 2008

‘Tis the season to eat a lot of food, give and receive presents, and celebrate the coming of a new year. So, unfortunately for my biggest fans, I will be on hiatus over the holiday/new year season to indulge in exactly those things.
I hope all of you have happy holidays and check back after the new year for an in depth analysis of the senselessness involved when skipping the number “13″ on such things like airplane isles and building floors — is it the number that makes it “unlucky” or the fact that it is the 13th? Or are people dumb for thinking a number could be unlucky?
Merry Christmas!

I’ve been fairly busy lately and a lot of things have happened over the course of the last month that are worth noting in this post. So, briefly, I will present a number of events that have caught my attention:
1. A new president was elected
History was also made in that he is the first president elected of African American heritage. Now, that’s not why I voted for him, but I’m sure it’s a reason why many people didn’t. And to those of you whose decision was based solely on skin color: IN YO FACE! Hopefully he’ll do a better job than the former president, but it won’t take much to accomplish that so I’m not worried.
2. I finally purchased Rock Band 2
Yes, I snapped under the pressure of incredible nerd-awesomeness and fake fan glory and bought a copy of this incredible game. I have to admit, I’m fairly impressed with my “drumming on expert skills.” Thanks to the help of my brother, I was even finally able to get through “Everlong” without failing (more than once)! 1 million fans and counting!
3. I celebrated my 25th birthday
A quarter-century of greatness has past in my life. I like to think that it was spent well. Seeing how I’ve spent nearly 84% of my life in school I’m probably smarter than I thought I’d ever be…oh wait, that’s ridiculous. I’m just as smart as I always have been because I was born with all the knowledge in the world: past, present, and future!
4. I visited my family for Thanksgiving
Like most people, I went back to where I hail from to celebrate the massive feast in my parents’ house that is Thanksgiving. Another year with more food than 30 people could eat for only 10 meant extremely full bellies and perpetuation of the tryptophan-making-you-sleepy-after-thanksgiving myth. While not entirely untrue, everyone knows that it’s more likely the result of a number of factors. Oh wait, I’m the one who knows everything…so click on the link you over eaters and learn something new!
5. My best friend and his wife gave birth to a baby boy
You really start to feel old when your friends not only get married, but start having kids right in your face! Not literally – that would be gross. But seriously, congratulations to Dave and Chelle and a warm welcome to little Aiden. I hope you know that I officially call dibs on being the person to get him drunk for the first time!
6. I travelled back to Blacksburg, Virginia to see a Hokie football game
It was nice being back on my old stomping grounds. The stadium is as fun as I remember it and the weather is still cold enough to freeze my toes off. I happily witnessed VT make it back to another ACC championship game – which will be played in Tampa. I’m trying to find at least one other person to go because I want to badly!!! So let me know if you want to go!!!

So, there are a few things that have been going on. Now that you’re all caught up, I’ll switch quickly to why I titled this article the way I did.
While watching a show on the Food Network tonight, I realized something: Everywhere I’ve lived before, there’s been a place to go to get “the best burger in town.” I’m not talking about your favorite chain restaurant or fast food burger – you can find those anywhere. I’m talking about the little hole-in-the-wall or your “favorite bar’s” burger that you didn’t think would be any good but is, in fact, awesome.
However, I have yet to find this elusive burger in Orlando for the better part of a year and a half. So, as of right this minute, I am beginning the quest to find the absolute best burger in Orlando! This burger can not merely be just good; it must be incredible! It also has to be affordable since I’m still on a graduate student’s budget. I’ll keep you updated as to my progress. And I don’t want to hear any comments about item number 3 above – the best burger in Orlando is perhaps the only bit of knowledge I have yet to acquire.
We’ll see…

Sorry for the delays in updating recently. This month has been full of other things that are currently more important than updating a widely unviewed blog.
Past empty promises aside, tomorrow should provide me enough time to write a real update. So keep posted.
